Is it advisable to get a Graduate degree in Education straight out of college w/ no experience in this economy?
I can choose between two programs of the same cost: a 4-year Undergraduate program at a lesser-known college -- York College of PA, or a 5-year Graduate program at a very well-known school being Rutgers of New Brunswick. I intend to teach in the South -- Mississippi, North/South Carolina, Texas, etcetera as opposed to my current state of New Jersey. I've heard that most schools will NOT hire people straight out of college with Graduate degrees with no experience, and that doing so with the economy the way it is would be the equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot. Which would you advise -- getting the Undergraduate degree, or the Graduate degree? I mean, I could always get a fellowship and get a Graduate degree later, too, right?
