1987 ford f150 having problem with stalling out and not starting back up?

Check the fuel pump to see if it is operating with the correct fuel pressure. If the fuel pump is bad, you would get very similar characteristics of what you're describing with the truck. The fuel pump may be getting some fuel to the carburetor, but not the amount required at times.
