Could the heat damage on my 4a natural hair be permanent?

I flat ironed my natural hair a few times and the texture changed. The texture it was before the flat iron is not the same as the texture I have now after I washed my hair. It is still curly but a looser curl. I did a deep treatment and everything. People told me that my texture will come back after some time but could it be permanent?
